‘Nothing but the Blood’, ‘Blessed Redeemer,’ and ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus‘ are hymns that I can guarantee every single person reading this review has sung at some point. Some of these might not even be sung on a regular basis in some churches, but these songs are filled with heart and history. On Hymns of Faith, Casting Crowns takes the familiar melodies and lyrics of favourite hymns and brands them with their trademark vocals and style, bringing new life to these songs we know so well. It’s a project which will bring these old hymns to new ears, Casting Crowns bring their amazing vocals and melodies to each track. I am always worried that the old hymns will get ruined by loud drums and artists trying to ‘adjust’ or ‘twist’ them, but Casting Crowns have brought gentle backing tracks to each hymn and managed to keep the passion and power that comes with each track. This album will please a wide range of customers; the ‘older’ generation, although they may be unfamiliar with the band, will be able to recognise and therefore enjoy the songs, while most of the younger market will be know well these top quality artists even if many of the original hymns are before their time - but they will also know that Casting Crowns don’t tend to produce rubbish. The fact they have included ‘Glorious Day’ and ‘Praise You in This Storm’ means there are two stand out modern worship songs next to timeless classics which I think all will appreciate.
