Description

Bethel Music's latest album VICTORY features 14 confident, declarative songs recorded live at Bethel Church. The album is inspired by the story of King Jehoshaphat, and the unlikely victory won by sending worshipers to the front lines of battle in 2 Chronicles 20:22. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the men who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. Along with current worship leaders Brian and Jenn Johnson, new emerging voices from our worship community are featured on this album such as Emmy Rose and Bethany Wohrle. Outside voices include Molly Skaggs, part of the Cageless Birds ministry led by Jonathan and Melissa Helser, who brings a grass-roots spirit with her song Ain't No Grave, and Daniel & Harvest Bashta with their new song Drenched in Love. Many of the songs on this album were forged in the midst of extreme circumstances, ushering our community into a place of unified dependence where we learned to fight battles Gods way - with worship. Mighty declarations like, I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies / I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief, were written the very night that Joel and Janie Taylor, a family in our community who helped found and launch Bethel Music, faced the possible loss of their son Jaxon.

CLC World Review  (06.06.2019)

I’m opening this issue’s reviews with a very bold statement… this is the best album of 2019 and I think it will take something truly special to knock it from this spot. After making this kind of statement I need to give some evidence to back it up. Firstly I say that all of the songs are worth a listen, there isn’t any I tend to skip and when I press shuffle I am never disappointed. The next reason I love Victory is that the title truly represents the whole album, which is about the victory we have as Christians. Recorded live from Bethel church the album opens with a strong ballad, ‘Raise a Hallelujah’ all about giving God praise no matter what circumstances you find yourself in. To choose just one stand out track would be very difficult. ‘Ain’t No Grave’ is a mighty hymn of praise and I love the worship style of ‘Drenched in Love’. Most listeners will sing along to the opening few lines then listen as Bethel add their twist on this classic hymn. This album is also great value for money, most of the 14 songs last over 5 minutes so it is definitely a road trip album. Pop this on the shelf, play it in the shop and watch as customers grab it off the shelf. Most of these customers will probably be between 18-40 but it would be a great introduction to someone ‘scared’ of ‘modern’ worship music. Review by Josh Banks
