I've just finished reading this book - cover to cover . As a vicar I wish I'd had it 20 years ago.
After setting solid foundations, the second half of the book is full of practical wisdom. Ian's states that all too often the church has used Old Testament models of leadership, as if Pentecost hadn't happened. The result has been passive and unempowered followers. I'd never thought about it like that before. So relevant to me, and to so much of the church right now.
The chapters then on animating the body, fostering collaboration and discerning direction were superb, and I will be making use of them.
