Dr. R.C. Sproul (1939–2017) described the importance of publishing the ancient truths of the Christian faith: “In every generation the gospel must be published anew with the same boldness, and the same clarity, and the same urgency that came forth in the sixteenth-century Reformation.” This conviction echoes the words of the apostle Paul, who commanded Timothy to guard the good deposit entrusted to him (2 Tim. 1:14). Established in 2006 by Dr. Sproul as the publishing imprint of Ligonier Ministries, the vision of Reformation Trust is to proclaim, explain, and defend the great truths of the historic Christian faith for a new generation.

Reformation Trust authors are leading reformed pastors and scholars who are skilled at rightly handling the Word of God. Their biblical teaching on doctrine, church history, and Christian living helps to deepen readers’ understanding of God’s Word and to equip them to teach and disciple others. Reformation Trust publishes many resources to help Christians grow in their walk with the Lord, including a study Bible, commentaries, small booklets, and books for both new and mature disciples.

Study Bible and Commentaries

Under Dr. Sproul’s editorial leadership, a team of more than seventy-five pastors, scholars, and editors labored for over twenty-five years to produce the Reformation Study Bible. In 2015, Reformation Trust published a new edition of the study Bible with more than 1.1 million words of verse-by-verse explanations, over 20,000 new or revised study notes, numerous articles on biblical topics, and the major creeds and confessions of church history. The study Bible offers an unparalleled reading experience in both the ESV and NKJV translations and is also available in a new condensed edition with the best of the commentary and study aids for reading on the go.

Reformation Trust also publishes biblical commentaries based on Dr. Sproul’s sermons as founding pastor of Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Fl. Volumes on Matthew, Mark, John, Acts, Romans, and 1–2 Peter allow readers to learn from Dr. Sproul’s many years of Godexalting, Bible-centered preaching.

Resources for New and Young Christians

Also gleaning from his lifetime of biblical study and reflection, Dr. Sproul’s Crucial Questions series consists of over thirty booklets with concise, easy-to-understand answers to some of the most fundamental questions about Christianity and Christian living. Each volume can be used for personal study, Sunday school, or evangelism and focuses on a specific question, such as Does Prayer Change Things?, Can I Trust the Bible?, and How Can I Be Right with God?

For the youngest Christians, richly illustrated and imaginative children’s books help families raise children for Christ and present deep biblical truths on their own level. Dr. Sproul’s series of children’s titles, including The Priest with Dirty Clothes, The Donkey Who Carried a King, The Knight’s Map, and The Lightlings, continues his life’s work of making biblical truths clear and understandable to students of all ages.

Reformation Trust strives to further this mission by publishing more trustworthy resources each year, all with a commitment to God’s truth, faithfulness to His church, and for His glory alone.

Theologically Rich Teaching

From Martin Luther to Jonathan Edwards, great pastors and theologians from church history illustrate what God’s grace can accomplish through a life submitted to His purposes. Reformation Trust publishes works to help Christians learn from the preaching, teaching, hymnody, and courageous choices of these significant figures. The Legacy of Luther, edited by Drs. R.C. Sproul and Stephen J. Nichols, considers the life and thought of the father of the Reformation, Martin Luther. A Little Book on the Christian Life from Drs. Burk Parsons and Aaron Denlinger is a new translation of John Calvin’s classic work that captures his biblical faithfulness and pastor’s heart. Finally, the Long Line of Godly Men profile series, edited by Dr. Steven J. Lawson, surveys the life, ministry, and theology of Charles Spurgeon, John Knox, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and many others.

Reformation Trust also publishes books from today’s pastors and scholars to encourage God’s people. Readers can learn the foundations of systematic theology with Dr. Sproul’s Everyone’s a Theologian and grow in their understanding of the doctrines of the Reformation with Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson’s In Christ Alone and By Grace Alone . They can rekindle love and awe for the Saviour with Dr. John MacArthur’s Good News and explore the riches of the Psalms with Dr. W. Robert Godfrey’s Learning to Love the Psalms. Many more works have been published to build on the great truths that have been entrusted to the church by its Reformation forefathers.

As Reformation Trust looks to the future, its outreach has grown, but its vision remains the same. Since 1971, Ligonier Ministries has proclaimed the holiness of God and helped Christians know what they believe, why they believe it, how to live it, and how to share it. Reformation Trust strives to further this mission by publishing more trustworthy resources each year, all with a commitment to God’s truth, faithfulness to His church, and for His glory alone.
