The Story behind the 'I Am So Many Things' NIV Journalling Bible

Thea Muir is an artist, speaker, adventurer and overcomer, who lives in Dorset with her husband Dominic, son Redemption and new baby daughter Esther. After struggling with eating disorders for many years, she developed a deep desire to see people set free from shame and become the fullest and freest versions of who God made them to be.

As she was emerging out of the old habits of mask wearing and performance associated with the eating disorders, Thea called out to God to show her who she really was. One by one he revealed a list of life-affirming, biblically based ‘I am’ declarations for her to speak over herself daily.

She started to collect the declarations in a journal, creating a unique and anointed illustration to go along with each one. Dom was so blessed by the simple truths and life-giving images he saw, that he encouraged her to publish them to help those also struggling in the area of identity. And so, in 2017, with the publication of her first book, I Am So Many Things was born.

Today they have a loyal following and a highly sought-after range of books and homeware that encourages people to see themselves as God sees them, and they are extremely excited to be launching the new I Am So Many Things Journalling Bible together with Hodder Faith.

This vibrant Bible combines the ever-popular NIV text with 48 illustrations and devotions based around Thea’s unique message of ‘Good seeds of God’s truth to plant in your heart’.

Thea’s Story

Post-university I found myself in the grip of debilitating eating disorders. I was riddled with shame, insecurity, vulnerability, fear and self-hatred. When I reached rock bottom, I cried out for help and a friend encouraged me to say three positive things about myself, in front of the mirror, daily. I started with the old classic: ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139:14), added ‘I am enough just as I am’, and then ‘I have a beautiful and healthy body’.

At first, saying these things made me squirm, but after a while I started to believe that I really was ‘enough’ and this helped me to accept that I didn’t need to wear masks or perform for others. I also started to believe that I did have a beautiful and healthy body, and accepting this helped me realise that I didn’t need to punish myself with gruelling exercise or binge eating, and so on, and so on.

The more I looked, the more I found that the Bible was full of declarations, containing good seeds of God’s truth about who He says we are. In fact, for every issue or demon that I was wrestling with, there was always a way-more-powerful ‘I am’ declaration to help me on my journey of true identity in Christ. If I felt alone and unlovable, I would declare ‘I am outrageously loved’. If I felt useless and worthless, I would declare ‘I am God’s very good idea’. And as these wonderful truths found their way into my heart, they changed the negative, self-defeating tapes playing in my head and affected my behaviour for the good… I truly was a new creation, being continually transformed by the renewing of my mind!

Everything we do at I Am So Many Things has one goal and that is to help those who are lost and struggling to fight against the lies of the enemy and find their true identity in God.
