Description
On 31 October 1517 Martin Luther openly challenged the Roman Catholic Church, marking the 'official' beginning of the Protestant Reformation. The central message of the the Reformation was the need for a personal relationship with Jesus. It also resulted in the Bible being translated into numerous languages.
Almost simultaenously two other major movements began: the formation of the Ottoman Turkish Empire, and the age of discovery when the European maqritime nations sought direct action to the regions of India and the East.
This documentary looks at four significant events throughout history, all of which fell on the date of 31 October. All four events are connected. Is it mere coincidence or is there more to it?
31 October 1517 - the Reformation under Martin Luther at Wittenberg in Germany
31 October 1898 - the visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II to Jerusalem
31 October 1917 - the Balfour Declaration in London
31 October 1917 - the Allied victory in Beersheba
